Window Fans

There have been a lot of misconceptions about the use of window fans. You know you had used portable air conditioners, then you had gone ceiling fans after your thought the whole-house attic fan just didn’t work so well. Then you finally planned to buy window fans. But you just thought they’re not that cost effective as they only produce less cool air. Hey, before you do any more assumptions, find out first why you should get for yourself. Window fans have made a lot of home users happy, would it not be convincing enough for you?

Getting to know them first, whether they are small window fans or large window fans, they all work the same. As a matter of fact they work exactly the way standard room fans behave. It is just that they are placed uniquely in windows. Window fans are electrically driven. The motor is the key mechanism, kind of like the CPU of a window fan. Then there are the blades that can sometimes vary in numbers. The blades are responsible for pulling cool air outside and extracting the warm air inside the house. Manufacturers over years of production and research have finally figured out an average size of a window fan that fit into virtually any type of window. Window fans are not to be confused with window exhaust fans, though it may be a subcategory of window fans. Exhaust fans work differently and mostly used in factories. For home exhaustion this is usually called fan box. Exhaust fans are different since the only thing they do is disperse the air from inside of the house.

Going back to window fans, manufacturers have also come up with a clever accessory of sills with the horizontal and vertical extenders. This will make a close and tight cooling system that will keep cool air inside. Modern window fans are also available with built in thermostat that keeps track of the room temperature and smartly knows when to blow cooler air during warmer hours of day time or regulate ventilation during night time.

Windows fans have also come a long way. Years of study have evolved the window fans into air-conditioner-like functions. Fans like this work closely like air conditioners in terms of cooling effect. The blades are exclusively designed to spin at high speeds and can sometimes rival that of traditional desk or stand fans.

Important things however should be noted when installing a window fan. You may need bolt in protective grills so the fans will not fall off that will risk damaging of properties below or people. Window fans though are very secure once they get mounted. Some dealers can get you a safety bracket to make it more secure and stable. A make shift roofing can also help protect the window fan although most of the products today are sunlight and water resistant. But in case of heavy rains, the roofing will be of valuable use to protect its motor.

Other versions of the window fans look good if set up on the wall preferably near the floor. The twin window fan for example will securely be placed on the wall. A very popular model of this window fan is the Lasko 2136 twin window fan that comes with a thermostat. Noisy window fans are now a thing of the past as this product boasts of double super quiet speed blades that work really calm especially during bed times.

The real advantage of window fans is that it keeps off all that bad odor and dusts inside the house. It is most useful in kitchens to exhaust unpleasant food smell. If you should go for cheaper ones, you might only end up getting a noisy sleep. To keep your window fans up and going however is always keep it clean especially the blade and the grills, so dust will not be blown along with the fresh and cool air from the outside.
