Air Conditioning Filters

As we continue to live the days of our lives along with the ever changing technology we sometimes leave out even the most trivial parts that make it work. Take the case of air conditioners. For all we know out of its cutting edge development, it still have loop holes. Much of these holes however expand due to our overlooking. We tend to forget that even these appliances need proper care. Air conditioning filters help run the unit well and if these aren’t attended to, then expect to have less effective cooling unit.

The best thing you can every do to keep that air conditioner running in tip top shape is to give it a healthier look. Each month be sure to check the air conditioning filters. These filters provide cleaner air and help the unit operate more efficiently.

When manufacturers first saw the need of filters in air conditioners or AC, it was so because the AC needs to breathe clean air. This is to make clear that the very first reason why there are filters is not to provide clean air to users. Later was it discovered that human will need this same clean air required by the machine. Today, more than ever before the air conditioning filter is given more attention.

First you need to check to see if the filter has accumulated dusts or debris on its blades. You should especially examine those units that are small in siz,e as it may damage and affect the performance of AC including increase in blower power consumption, higher cost maintenance and shortened life span, failure of compressor and reduced efficiency in cooling. To address these, several maintenance measures are needed to be carried out in order for a user to decide whether there is a need for air conditioner filter replacement or not.

The most common questions among household users is how frequent does one have to clean the filters. This may significantly vary from one type of AC to another. In most cases small air conditioners may need to be frequently cleaned and checked, preferably once in every two weeks, especially if it serves a relatively larger room than its intended size. Bigger AC units will require a monthly maintenance check up. Enterprise air conditioners that need huge labor in cleaning will have to be attended to once in every two months.

But more than the size, do not wait for the filters to get chocked with dust. Clean or replace at once if the situation is unbearable. Excessive clogging and accumulation of dust of many air condition filters are mainly due to its inappropriate size. Large rooms will definitely need larger filters. As a common rule, there should be a one and a half square feet of filter for every ton of capacity. The minimum however is 1 foot.

Aside from the size the effectivity of the filter will absolutely depend on its capability to trap dirt in the air, the amount of dirt in the air and the speed of air flowing through it. One type of air condition filters is the one inch fiberglass disposable filter. This is the most common filter in American homes due to less cost. This product is coated with an adhesive element and easily draws more dust. But when one cleans it the effect is that along with the dirt the adhesive coating will also be washed off. Making it less effective and become costly since the user has to frequently replace it. A variation of this filter is its two inch counterpart. Still disposable, it is common in commercial establishments. It may be thick, but it also attracts more dusts.

You may however go for more expensive and so called high efficient filters but be careful as other high efficient filters may result in more airflow resistance thus resulting to more blower power. It may bring you cleaner air but may bore holes in your pocket. To prevent unnecessary cost, remember to always clean the air conditioner filters. Give your air conditioner and your family a clean air to breathe.
